Daniel Kelly improved Celtic contract offer tabled as Bayer Leverkusen make transfer approach

Daniel Kelly will sit down with Celtic for more contract talks this week - despite interest from the Invincible Bayer Leverkusen.

The academy Player of the Year has a number of suitors around Europe with Xabi Alonso's side keen to discover the Hoops' asking price for the starlet. Sources in Germany have made it clear to Football Scotland that the 18-year-old is considered a serious talent for the age group and that Leverkusen are hoping to strike a deal.

The Hoops, meanwhile, have been steadfast in their desire to keep the playmaker and the feeling inside the club is that they believe they can have successful talks and convince Kelly to pledge his future to Parkhead.

That would then leave the Scottish champions in a much stronger position down the line should he hit the ground running under manager Brendan Rodgers next season with any potential transfer exit then bringing about a more substantial fee. Right now it's understood the compensation package would sit just shy of around £500k.

Rodgers considers Kelly among his first-team having given him run outs this term against Hearts, Livingston, St Johnstone and Dundee in the Premiership, where he scored his first senior goal in the division against the Dees.
