Darwin Nunez sends heartfelt message as Liverpool goal celebration explained
Darwin Nunez has sent a heartfelt message after scoring in Liverpool’s 2-0 victory over Aston Villa. The Uruguayan netted his third goal of the season after being recalled to Arne Slot’s starting XI.
In truth, the 25-year-old could have scored a hat-trick during his 65 minutes on the pitch. But he did open the scoring with a well-taken strike after Mohamed Salah had seemingly been fouled by last man Leon Bailey.
While referee David Coote insisted no foul to the Reds’ disbelief, Nunez ran on to the loose ball before rounding Emiliano Martinez and rifling home from an acute angle in the 20th minute.

His strike prompted wild celebrations from supporters and his team-mates alike, with Liverpool well-aware that a victory would see them move five points clear at the top of the Premier League table.
After the majority of Nunez’s team-mates ran over to celebrate with the striker in front of the Kop, he broke away to pick up a loose ball balanced on top of a cone behind the goal, before putting it under his shirt, sucking his thumb and pointing to his family in the crowd and making a heart with his hands.
Unsurprisingly, Nunez has now confirmed that his partner, Lorena Manas, is expecting their second child together, with his goal celebration pre-empting such an announcement.
Posting pictures of his celebration with the ball under his shirt, posing with ultrasound pictures with Manas, and their son carrying the pictures, Nunez wrote on Instagram: “Words cannot express the happiness we feel for this new life we have created together, our family grows, your brother and your parents are waiting for you with the utmost excitement to give you all the love in the world.”
