There aren't many players in recent Liverpool history quite as enigmatic as Darwin Nunez.

The imposing Uruguayan striker seems to have the ability to lurch from brilliance to bewildering in seconds. Causing a split amongst fans, the former Benfica man will often have sections of the Kop proudly chanting his name while drawing raw ire from others.

Cutting such a divisive figure, it's hard to say whether Nunez has been a success at Liverpool since his big money move in the summer of 2022. However, there's no question that the man dubbed 'captain chaos' by some gives the Reds something they've never quite seen before. But have you ever wondered what he's like off the pitch?

The 24 year-old hails from humble beginnings having grown up in Artigas in Uruguay. His lifestyle since turning professional is a far cry from his upbringing in a neighbourhood known as El Pirata, or Pirate, in English. To support young Darwin's burgeoning football career, his father, Bibiano Núñez, worked as a builder while his mother Silvia Ribeiro was a hawker of milk bottles.

Darwin’s father may have worked in construction but he earned very little, with Uruguayan media having referred to the player's rise to the top of the game as an “extraordinary story of overcoming adversity.” Nunez has opened up about his parents in the past, recalling: "My parents sacrificed themselves for me, my mother collected bottles on the street and my father worked all day in construction."

Beginning his pro career in Montevideo back in 2017, a move to Almeria in Spain preceded a big money move to Benfica for a club record fee of €24million (just over £20m). It was his displays there that coaxed the Reds into buying Nunez for £64million, that contained add-ons potentially taking the overall fee to a club record £85 million.

However, despite his spiralling net worth, with Nunez reportedly earning £140,000 a week since his mega money switch to Liverpool, he proudly shared a shot of his family home on Instagram last year with the caption, "My house, where I was happy for 14 years! I will never forget where I came from and I will always remember her fondly."

In his personal life, Nunez lives with his long term partner, Lorena Manas. Manas comes from Almeria in south-east Spain and the two had a son, also named Darwin, together last year. Manas also once dated former Barcelona star Aleix Vidal and they share a daughter together.

Not much is know about Manas, aside from the fact she's deeply in love with Nunez. While her Instagram is private, the Liverpool star has posted several adoring pictures with his beau, including on her birthday last year when they posed for a cheeky kiss in what looks like their dining room, complete with balloons aplenty. The family recently enjoyed a trip to Disneyland.

While it's unclear where exactly Nunez lives, snippets from his social media appear to show the house to be one befitting of a Premier League footballer. Many Reds players opt to live in Formby or Cheshire, including former manager Jurgen Klopp, who has had a mansion in the former location since 2015. Nunez's instagram shows the footballer and his partner living in a very generous sized abode complete with a huge garden surrounded by woodland.

He has also been known to share pictures on his social media of himself, partner and child out and about around Liverpool. What is known though, is that Nunez is a fan of his cars. While not one to openly brag about his collection, in the past he has posted a story on Instagram where you can see him driving a luxurious Audi, possibly an Audi e-tron, which can be worth £70,000.

He has also been spotted driving a BMW X5, worth around £70,0000, and a Mercedes G63 which goes for around £150,000. A South American news outlet also reported that Nunez has a lavish Lamborghini Urus Evo, which is worth around £300,000 - depending on the model of the car and add-ons.

Regardless of Nunez' life off the pitch, It's not been an easy time for him in front of goal for Liverpool over the last few months. The Uruguayan international headed straight down the tunnel at full-time in a win over Spurs and then proceeded to cause strife by removing every Liverpool-related picture from his social media page.

His time at Anfield has similarities to that of Luis Suarez, the other Uruguayan who gave the Reds as much magic as he did strife. The two players have developed a friendship over the years, with the former Liverpool and Barcelona striker even branding Darwin as an 'idiot' following Nunez's sending off against Newcastle in his first season with Liverpool.

Nunez's personal life seems at odds with his on-pitch persona with the forward enjoying a relatively low-key lifestyle, but there's no question on the field he gives the Reds a fierce mix of unpredictability and frustration. Yet if his talent can be moulded into something consistent then Liverpool could have a serious player on their hands.

However, as Red's legend Jamie Carragher told Sky Sports back in January of this year: "I don’t think he’ll change too much. This is Darwin Nunez, it’s who he is."
