David Beckham’s Jersey, Diego Maradona’s Cleats, and More Soccer Memorabilia Are Heading to Auction
Bidders will be shooting their shot to score soccer gear from legends like Viv Anderson, Gordon McQueen, David Beckham, and Diego Maradona next month.
The U.K.’s Graham Budd Auctions will be putting memorabilia from English football stars up for sale during its On the Road to Manchester & the Kits of Legends event. Slated to run from October 1 to October 2, the event has over 1,600 pieces of sports collectibles on offer, ranging from rare and iconic shirts to caps, medals, boots, and other soccer ephemera.

The first day will present collections from Anderson, Gordon, and former Newcastle United player David McCreery. Anderson’s debut 1978 England jersey will lead the lot, marking the first time in history that the garment has gone up for grabs. The red, white, and blue long-sleeved shirt, estimated to fetch anywhere from £30,000 ($39,842) to £50,000 ($66,269), was worn during the England v. Czechoslovakia game. At the time, Anderson was the first Black professional footballer to play for the England National Team. You can also snag the blue velvet hat he wore to that same match, estimated to go for between £7,000 ($9,293) and £10,000 ($13,276), in addition to his walk-on tracksuit.
“All I’ve ever wanted to do is play football,” Anderson said in a statement. “I’ve worked hard, had a great career and I’m glad to have inspired people along the way. The time has come to sell some of the wonderful memories of my time as a professional footballer—I’d like to see my family benefit, and I hope some of the items will be shared around the world for people to enjoy.”
Relics from the late Scottish soccer player McQueen will also go under the hammer on day one. Highlights from his collection include his 1983 F.A. Cup Winners Medal that he earned while playing for Manchester United, which is estimated to fetch between £15,000 ($19,920) to £20,000 ($26,560). “We have some incredible memories of my dad, so we wanted to pass something on to people who can enjoy them, give collectors and fans a little bit of my dad’s experience,” explained McQueen’s daughter and British sports presenter Hayley McQueen.
Day two will put items from Beckham, Maradona, Terry Butcher, and Ernie Curtis on the auction block. The Spice Boy’s red and black No. 32 match-worn jersey from 2010’s A.C. Milan v. Inter Milan game could see bids of up to £3,000 ($3,978), while another shirt that Beckham wore when he missed the penalty that cost England the game in the UEFA Euro 2004 semi-finals is expected to fetch £2,000 ($2,650). If you’re a Maradona fan, you can nab a pair of the Argentine’s match-worn, 1996-97 Puma cleats, estimated up to £3,000 ($3,978)—talk about a score.
