David Coote brands Jurgen Klopp a 'German c***' as X-rated Liverpool rant caught on camera
Footage has emerged on social media allegedly showing Premier League referee David Coote branding Jurgen Klopp a 'German c***' in an X-rated rant about Liverpool.
And he's now been suspended by PGMOL until an investigation into the video is concluded. Coote has been in the headlines over the weekend after he was the man in the middle for Liverpool's 2-0 win over Aston Villa, where he sparked the ire of Anfield punters when he appeared to wave away a foul on Mohamed Salah in the build-up to the Reds' opening goal. It was picked up by commentator Darren Fletcher, who said it was a 'concern' if Coote felt Leon Bailey hadn't fouled the Egyptian.
Liverpool won the game to move five clear at the top of the Premier League but fans have directed anger at Coote for that perceived gaffe and his overall performance. Now an incredible clip has emerged showing Coote ranting about Liverpool during the Jurgen Klopp era. Speaking after a game where he was fourth official, he branded their performance 's***' and took issue with Klopp in particular - calling him 'arrogant' and a 'German c***’.
In the footage, shared widely on X, Coote is heard saying: "Liverpool were s**t, and Jurgen Klopp is a c***, an absolute c***. Aside from having a right pop at me when I reffed them against Burnley during lockdown - he accused me of lying and had a right f****** pop at me - I've got no interest in speaking to someone who is f***** arrogant. I do my best not to speak to him."
He then gets his phone out and shows a photo of him standing on the touchline at Anfield with Klopp and James Milner, before saying: "Milner's alright, I get on with James Milner. But (Klopp), my God. German c***, f*** me."
It's been shared alongside a second clip in which Coote says: "Just to be clear, that f****** last video can't go anywhere."
Our sister title, the Daily Mirror, broke the news that PGMOL were aware of the video and were investigating. And now a statement from the referees' body reads: "David Coote has been suspended with immediate effect pending a full investigation. PGMOL will be making no further comment until that process is complete."
