David Gray believes Hibs should not be short of motivation on Sunday as they try and make amends for their Dundee United capitulation.

The last time they faced the Tannadice side, they gave them one of their most demoralising experiences of the season. Gray's side were 2-1 up as the clock ticked past the 90-minute mark in their meeting at Tannadice last month but, while down to 10 men, they conceded two stoppage-time goals and ended up losing 3-2.

Now, Gray expects his struggling team to have the bit between their teeth when they welcome United to Easter Road on Sunday in the Scottish Premiership. “I think it’s natural for the players to have that, and I can feel that,” he said.

“It also helps from a tactical point that we played them so recently. We know what to expect, and the players do because we felt it recently.

“The full focus is on what we can do and how we can affect the game. We take the positives from the game before (against them), we know the areas that let us down, and we have to go into the game really on the front foot with real attacking intent.”

Gray, whose side have won only one of their opening 10 Premiership matches this term, will make a late call on whether to include Dwight Gayle and Chris Cadden after the pair missed the midweek draw at Ross County due to injury.

“They’re in a race against time, but they’re trying their best to make themselves available,” he said.

“We will wait and see because we can’t take unnecessary risks, but at the same time we know the situation we’re in.”
