Paul Wotton says veteran defender Dean Moxey has been a shining example to younger players on how to be a pro this season. Moxey, who will be 39 in January, signed a new deal for the Gulls in the summer when Paul Wotton came in as the new boss.

The re-signing of Moxey was much-anticipated by Gulls fans, who chanted his name at the Princess Theatre during the special edition of Football Advisor Neil Warnock’s ‘Are You With Me?’ show there.

He was given another year and a coaching role, but has not featured much in the first team so far and is often not even in the squad of 16. However, he warms up the defenders before each game and is waiting in the wings if needed to help out a young defence that has done so well so far.

“Mox has been a different class in training,” said Wotton, about the defender who played in the Premiership for Crystal Palace after learning his game at exeter-city-fc>Exeter City. “He has been an example really – an example to our younger players, which we have got quite a few of.

“When I say younger, I mean 19, 20, 21. We have got quite a few of them – and he is a shining example of how to have longevity as a footballer. He looks after himself, he is still tremendously fit, and he trains properly.”
