Will DeAndre Hopkins play vs. the Raiders? Chiefs WR's status for Week 8

The Kansas City Chiefs became the latest AFC team to trade for a wide receiver this week by dealing a conditional fifth-round pick to the Tennessee Titans for DeAndre Hopkins. The five-time Pro Bowler joins an undefeated Chiefs team that needed an upgrade at the position as they attempt a three-peat as Super Bowl champions.

The trade came down Wednesday and became official today after Hopkins passed his physical.

Hopkins and Kansas City coach Andy Reid spoke at a press conference today and clarified when to expect Hopkins to play for the Chiefs.

Will DeAndre Hopkins play in Week 8?

The Chiefs take on AFC West foe Las Vegas on the road Sunday. Hopkins will only have a few days of preparation ahead of that but Reid said he still could play.

"We'll see how he picks it up," Reid said. "[We] got to get him out in practice... I mean, why wait, right? If he can handle it without putting him in a bad position."

Reid noted that Hopkins' experience – 12 seasons in the NFL – and football IQ means he could pick things up pretty fast.

"He's a smart guy," Reid said. "He understands football."

Hopkins agreed that he has the experience to get on the field sooner than later.

"I've been in the NFL for 12 years," he said. "I know football so hopefully I can go out there and make some plays wherever I fit in, wherever I'm needed."

He noted that it likely won't take long for him to get on the same page with Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

"[Mahomes] has done this before with other receivers coming in," Hopkins said. "I've played with many quarterbacks so I think we'll be all right."
