DeWitt boys take second at Last Chance Drake Relays Qualifiers

Apr. 19—DAVENPORT — The Davenport Assumption Knights hosted their Last Chance Drake Relays Qualifier meet on Thursday as local teams Central DeWitt, Camanche, Northeast and Prince of Peace took one more shot at earning a spot at the Drake Relays in Des Moines next Thursday through Saturday.

The DeWitt boys had a really good day overall as a team, tallying 98 points for a second place finish. Camanche tallied 19 points for a twelfth place finish and Prince of Peace got four points on the boys end. The Northeast girls were able to tie for eighth with 40 points while Camanche got tenth with 33 and Central DeWitt took twelfth with 22.

Camanche's Josh Wiersema was the lone top three finisher for the Storm on the night, taking third with a time of 11.92 seconds. The Storm did tally a pair of fifth place finishes as well.

Individually for DeWitt, Caleb Olson earned them a first place finish in the 800 meter run, finishing in 2:01.33. Keegan Peterson and Parker Petsche also took second and third in the 3200 meter run with a 10:25.63 and 10:28.17 respectively.

Senior and reigning state champion Tristan Rheingans was dominant on Thursday, earning first place finishes in both the 110 and 400 meter hurdles. He ran a 14.96 and 54.51 in each respective event.

The relays is where the Sabers dominated, winning the 4x800 meter relay, the sprint medley and the 4x110 meter shuttle hurdle.

Brady Freeman, Caleb Olson, Kyle Olson and Ben Zimmer ran the 4x800 in 8:22.17. In the sprint medley it was Colton Sullivan, Michael Palmer, Alex Brown and Nathan Butler who combined for a time of 1:38.71.

Abe Krukow, Jameson Gregoire, Ayden McManus and Tristan Rheingans took care of business in the 4x110 meter shuttle hurdle with a time of 1:01.37.

On the girls side of things they were highlighted by Camanche's Jayden Cravatta who got another win in the 100 meter dash, finishing in 13.38 seconds. Paige Irvine snagged two other first place finishes out in the field for Camanche, throwing 119-01 in discus and 35-11.75 in shot put.

Northeast was led by freshman Jordan Tegeler who took second in the 400 meter dash and fourth in the 200 meter dash. She ran a 1:03.34 and 27.14 respectively.

Sophomore Teryn Hansen also ran well for the Rebels, taking third in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:35.87. Luxi Coutu also took third in the shot put with a throw of 33-01.75.
