Manchester United legend Dimitar Berbatov will be back on screens on Monday night as he takes up a new role with Sky Sports.

The former striker will be on punditry duty for the Premier League clash between Fulham and Brentford on Monday Night Football. Berbatov played 54 time for Fulham, scoring 20 times after leaving United in 2012.

Ahead of his appearance, here’s a closer look at the 43-year-old, who scored 56 goals in 149 appearances in a Manchester United shirt.

Net worth

While his exact figure is not known, according to the website Celebrity Net Worth, Berbatov’s worth is around $19.5 million (£15.05m). Most of his wealth has come from his football career, with him starting at CSKA Sofia before retiring in April 2018 after a spell with Indian side Kerela Blasters.

Sir Alex Ferguson apology

Speaking back in 2020, Berbatov revealed that he received an apology from former manager Sir Alex Ferguson following his omission from the squad for the 2011 Champions League final against Barcelona. Despite scoring 20 Premier League goals throughout the campaign, after failing to score in earlier rounds, Berbatov was forced to watch the final, which United lost 3-1, from the stands with Wayne Rooney, Javier Hernandez and Michael Owen preferred.

It’s a decision that Ferguson has since admitted he got wrong. When writing his autobiography, the former striker reached out to Ferguson to ask him to write the foreward, it was then that he received the apology.

Speaking to the Guardian in 2020, he said: “When I first saw what he had written I felt some very mixed emotions. First of all, you have to be really strong as a personality to say ‘I’m sorry’ and the fact that he did only shows what kind of person Sir Alex is.

“His words made me feel good. However, I wouldn’t say I was surprised because I always thought I had a place in the team for that particular game. But that is now in the past and you can’t turn back the time.”

Man United return

Speaking to Manchester United’s official website back in the summer former international teammate Stiliyan Petrov gave an insight into what Berbatov was like off the pitch. "Off the pitch, very smart," he said.

"Quite the perfectionist. That’s why I can say that not many people know him but he’s got a great sense of humour.

"If you let him in, he will let you know him because sometimes he just closes himself in and he doesn’t trust many people. But, if you earn his trust, you’ll see that he’s a great person.”

The two came up against each other at Old Trafford when Manchester United Legends took on Celtic back in September, the score ended 1-1, with Berbatov only denied by the crossbar.
