District 16-3A Softball: Troup thumps Jefferson, 13-2

Mar. 30—TROUP — Troup's Lady Tigers moved into a three-way tie for first place in the District 16-3A standings by scoring a 13-2 triumph over the visitors from Jefferson Friday night. The game was official after four and a half innings due to the mercy rule.

Troup, who is 15-7 overall, is tied with Jefferson and Arp at the top of the league standings, with the trio of teams all owning a 5-2 conference record.

The Lady Tigers scored three runs in the first inning and never looked back in their latest win.

Sydnie Dickey and Lila Priest belted home runs for Troup, with Dickey driving in two runs and Priest one.

Bailey Blanton and MaKayla Spencer each went 2-3 at the plate. Blanton cracked a double and drove in a pair of runs. Spencer also had a two-base hit for Troup.

Hannah Cearley singled and drove in three runs for the Lady Tigers.

Taylor Gillispie pitched four innings and gave up two unearned runs on one hit. She struck out six and walked two.

Carli Hays pitched the final frame for the Troup ladies and retired the Lady Bulldogs in order.

At 6 p.m. Tuesday Troup will host Tatum.
