When does the 2024 college football season start? Week 0 schedule and how to watch

The 2024 college football season will surely be interesting, with conference realignment and the Power 5 being reduced to the Power 4.

The Oklahoma Sooners and the Texas Longhorns are moving to the Southeastern Conference, while the Oregon Ducks, Washington Huskies, USC Trojans and UCLA Bruins are heading to the Big Ten. It's shaping up to be a must-see season to see how teams perform in their new conferences.

With all the changes in college football conferences, some powerhouse teams will be under new leadership: The Alabama Crimson Tide will be without Nick Saban for the first time since the 2006 season. Meanwhile, the defending College Football Playoff champions, the Michigan Wolverines, bid farewell to Jim Harbaugh, while Washington lost Kalen DeBoer to Alabama.

College football is officially back with four Week 0 games slated. Here's how to watch:

When does college football start in 2024?

The 2024 college football season will kick off on Saturday, Aug. 24 with Week 0, followed by most of the country's Division I programs starting the following weekend. Week 1 games begin on Thursday, Aug. 29 and run each day through Monday, Sept. 2.

  • MEAC/SWAC Challenge: Norfolk State vs. Florida A&M (Atlanta) | 7:30 p.m. | ABC

  • SMU at Nevada | 8 p.m. | CBS Sports Network

  • Delaware State at Hawaii | 11:59 p.m.
