Drake Relays Qualifiers: Sattler, Nielsen and Angel highlight Clinton, Seeser Camanche
Apr. 22—DES MOINES — Accepted high school entries into the Drake Relays were announced Saturday afternoon as they prepare for the highly-esteemed event to take place this Thursday through Saturday.
The Clinton River Queens qualified in five different events. The Queens grabbed two spots in the 100 meter dash as seniors Kanijah Angel and Quinn Nielsen will compete in the preliminary round on Friday morning.
Senior standout Camryn Sattler earned the other two individual spots for Clinton, qualifying in both the 1500 meter run and the 3000 meter run. She will compete Thursday at 6:07 p.m. in the 3000 and Saturday around 4:30 p.m. in the 1500.
Angel, Nielsen, Hannah Malli and Aumree Russell were the lone Clinton relay to qualify and they will compete on Saturday at 9:40 a.m.
The Camanche Storm qualified in three different events, starting with Jayden Cravatta in the 100 meter dash. Junior Tyson Seeser will also be there as one of the top jumpers across the state of Iowa in the high jump.
Finally, their 4x100 team which consists of Seeser, Josh Wiersema, Mark Sanders and Ty Stone will compete Saturday morning around 10 a.m.
Northeast junior Grant Gray was the lone qualifier for Northeast, qualifying in the discus throw. He will compete Thursday at 2:30 p.m.
Central DeWitt had the most qualifiers, all boys. They are highlighted by Tristan Rheingans who is a state champion in Class 3A Hurdles. He qualified individually in both the 110 meter hurdles and the 400 meter hurdles.
Rheingans will compete in the 110 meter preliminary run on Friday at 8:44 a.m. and the 400 on Saturday at 1:24 p.m.
The Sabers were able to qualify in five other relays, the 4x100, the 4x200, the 4x400, the 4x110 meter shuttle hurdles and the distance medley.
