Dugan, Cougars shut out Marietta

Apr. 2—SULPHUR — Ada junior JD Dugan tossed a one-hit shutout and the Cougars rolled past Marietta 11-0 Friday at the Sulphur Baseball Festival.

Ada improved to 5-11 on the year and will host Seminole in a District 4A-1 doubleheader today beginning at 4:30 p.m. The Cougars then travel to the Kingston Baseball Tournament and will face Davis at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in a first-round matchup.

Marietta left town at 1-14.

The Cougars led 1-0 before getting some breathing room with a six-run outburst in the top of the second inning. That outburst included an RBI double by Cade Smith and run-scoring base hits from Kyler Gaddis, Elvis Edwards and Chalin Robertson. Reid Samson hit a sacrifice fly during the Ada volley.

Edwards and Dugan finished with two hits each to pace Ada at the plate. Edwards went 2-for-2 with a walk and scored three times and Dugan finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Robertson ended up 1-for-2 with two RBIs.

Dugan terrific pitching performance included three strikeouts and only one walk in four shutout innings.

Dillon Trail had the lone Marietta hit — a two-out single in the bottom of the first inning. Seth McMillin was the losing pitcher for the Indians. He struck out three and walked four in three innings.
