Dundee reveal Dens Park improvement plans with significant investment after Rangers fallout
Dundee have a plan in place to improve their pitch this summer and will spend over £100,000 on it.
The Dens Park surface has been widely criticised after the Dee had FIVE home game postponements this season. It came to a head when their clash with Rangers was called off twice with Phillipe Clement complaining about the disruption it caused him and his side after two wasted journeys.
There was also the issue of that match being played after the last scheduled round of matches before the split with Hibs and Motherwell raising issues over sporting integrity as they competed with the Dark Blues for a top six spot. Dundee insisted climate change and the weather contributed to the state of their pitch but detractors pointed out Dundee United, on the same street, had no issues.
The Dee have now apologised to other clubs and the SPFL over the problems they've suffered. They say work will start on it straight after their final match of the season against Kilmarnock this month.
And a significant, six-figure fee will be pumped into making improvements.
Dundee general manager Greg Fenton said: “We as a club know we’ve had difficulties with the pitch and we can only apologise to the supporters of our club and other clubs for the issues we’ve faced. We have apologised to the league.
“What we have done from the early part of last season is employ contractors and a number of consultants who have given us recommendations in relation to the pitch.
“We’ve taken their advice on and over the past couple of months they have drawn up plans to help with the drainage issues at the Scot Foam Stadium.
“The work will start in May straight after the Kilmarnock game. It shows the investment from the owners in the club and the commitment that we have given to Dens as a stadium. We also have to satisfy the league requirements to make sure this doesn’t happen again.
“You are talking six-figures easily. It is a serious amount of money being put into the pitch and it isn’t far short of a full revamp. It is a considerable investment being put in.”
