The weekend's football benefited Liverpool in the Premier League title race. The Reds claimed a fine 2-1 win over Chelsea at Anfield on Sunday afternoon in an entertaining encounter.

That came less than 24 hours after Arsenal suffered their first slip up of the season. The Gunners were surprisingly beaten by Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium, losing 2-0 to goals from Ryan Christie and Justin Kluivert.

That does not tell the whole story though. Arsenal, for the third time this season, had to play for a long spell of the match with ten men after William Saliba was sent off in the first half for hauling down Evanilson as he went over the halfway line.

The defeat, coupled with Manchester City's late and controversial win over Wolves and Liverpool's victory over Chelsea, leaves Arsenal trailing in the wake of the other two in the Premier League title race. And two of them do battle at the Emirates Stadium next week.

Arsenal host Liverpool in north London next Sunday and after losing to Bournemouth, Mikel Arteta 's team cannot afford to drop more points in the title race.

Arteta will definitely be without two players for the clash with Arne Slot's side. Martin Odegaard remains sidelined, with Arteta admitting the Norwegian would "hopefully" be back before the international break in November.

The "hopefully" points to Odegaard being missing for the game with Liverpool as there are weeks before the next international break comes along. Arsenal will also be without Saliba, who will serve a one-match ban for his red card against the Cherries.

Liverpool have issues of their own and picked up a new one against Chelsea. Diogo Jota had to be replaced ni the first half after taking a knock in a collision with Tosin Adarabioyo that many Arsenal supporters will have expected to see a red card for after what happened to Saliba.

Federico Chiesa has been missing for the Reds and is likely to be out of the clash at the Emirates Stadium. Goalkeeper Alisson and Harvey Elliott will also be out.
