Former Leicester City defender Wesley Fofana could be a doubt to face the Foxes for Chelsea after the international break.

The 23-year-old defender, who left the King Power Stadium for Stamford Bridge for £70m in August 2022, has been forced to withdraw from the France squad with an injury. He had been called up for Nations League matches against Israel and Italy during the November international break.

But the French Football Federation released a statement confirming Fofana was ‘experiencing pain in his left knee’ and so has returned to Chelsea. Fofana played the full 90 minutes of Chelsea’s final match before the international break, a 1-1 draw against Arsenal at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Chelsea confirmed Fofana’s return to the club in a statement which read: “Wesley Fofana has withdrawn from the France squad ahead of their UEFA Nations League fixtures against Israel and Italy.

“The French Football Federation released a statement on Monday confirming the defender was ‘experiencing pain in his left knee’ following our draw with Arsenal at the weekend.”

The Foxes host Chelsea at the King Power Stadium when Premier League action resumes on Saturday, November 23.
