Everton and Liverpool supporters could be set for huge TV rule change

Supporters of both Liverpool and Everton could soon be able to watch every Premier League game live as there is reportedly "intense pressure" to scrap the Saturday 3pm blackout.

The United Kingdom is the only country in Europe to still impose a Saturday afternoon blackout, which means no live football can be shown between 2:45pm to 5:15pm.

However, The Times claims senior figures in the English game believe the historic rule is "unlikely to survive" beyond the 2028-29 season.

The report adds that the recently increased number of live matches on television "is seen as making the blackout look increasingly out of date".

Next season, all Premier League matches outside of the Saturday 3pm timeslot will be shown on television, which follows the English Football League's decision to increase the number of live matches on television to over 1,000 per season.

The blackout is determined by UEFA's Article 48, which, when applied for by the FA, states that 50 per cent of matches in the Premier League and Championship must be scheduled for Saturday 3pm.

This season, only three of Liverpool's Premier League matches - Nottingham Forest, Bournemouth and Brighton - have not been shown on television.

Liverpool are currently top of the Premier League and face Newcastle United at St James Park on Wednesday. The game will be broadcast on Amazon Prime. Everton, meanwhile, face Wolverhampton Wanderers at Goodison Park on the same night.
