Bristol City picked up an important three points in the Championship as they ran out 4-0 winners over Plymouth Argyle and Wayne Rooney on Saturday afternoon.

As they did against both Watford and Burnley, the Robins got into some excellent areas without being able to take their chances in the opening 45 minutes to head into the break level at 0-0, but the pressure told in the second half as they scored four unanswered goals in quick succession.

A brace from Anis Mehmeti sandwiched between a goal apiece from Sinclair Armstrong and Scott Twine was enough to ensure all the points would be staying in Ashton Gate to move the Robins within five points of the play-off positions.

Although Mehmeti was the man of the moment as he moved above Nahki Wells in the Reds' scoring charts for the season, it was Twine who spoke to the print media after the full-time whistle to discuss a range of different topics.

Here's everything the attacking midfielder had to say following his first start since October and his first goal since August.

Scott, that’s got to be a perfect first start back?

I think everyone enjoyed it out there today. It was a good performance, I think we deserved the goals that we got and I think it has been coming to be fair. We’ve played really well in the last few weeks, we’ve had a couple of losses that I think on another day we could have won 2-1 or 3-1 so it’s nice to get the four goals, keep a clean sheet and go away with a win.

I’m guessing if you had to pick the goal you almost scored at Watford or the one that went in today, it would have been quite an easy choice?

Watford would have got us an extra point to be fair, but I don’t mind scoring goals like that. I’ll take them more than the others to be fair but relieved to get one of them and sometimes you need a little bit of luck and I’m glad I got that today.

You couldn’t have come much closer beforehand, hitting the bar and forcing a good couple of saves.

I think we were really good at creating chances today. I probably could have scored a couple more as I hit the bar and put one wide but I think the team never lost faith in anything we were doing. We never changed what we were doing, we never panicked and we spoke about that at half-time because we easily could have been 2-0 or 3-0 up in the first half but I’m glad we came out today, kept up what we were doing and I think we deserved what we got.

On a personal note, it must have been nice to get out there and start after a difficult few months with injuries.

Yeah definitely, it’s obviously nice to play, it’s my job and I love it so I always want to start and thankfully I got the goal to top it off.

Is that more central position ideally where you’d prefer to play?

Anywhere across the frontline to be fair I’m happy with. The gaffer trusts me that I can drift into pockets of spaces where I think I can get the ball and I really enjoyed the position today.

Is it a good thing or a bad thing that you have a week with no midweek game now?

I love the Tuesday night games, if I had it my way I’d like to play two times a week. Obviously, my body probably wouldn’t like it but it’s not a problem though. Hopefully, we can rest up, get a good week of training in us and then hopefully go strong for Portsmouth.

Did Anis Mehmeti say anything to you after you got in the way of his shot?

I looked at him when I scored and just started laughing to be fair. I didn’t know if it was going in but I couldn’t do much about it. It just went in the bottom corner and I just looked at him and laughed.

A supporter outside said it was one of the best performances at home for a couple of years. You’ve been here for a while now, what do you make of that? Do you agree?

I think sometimes we have really good performances and the result doesn’t show it whereas today when you win 4-0 comfortably like that, it shows more and you get the three points. There have been times when I think we’ve actually been really good and not come away with the win, or maybe just scrapped a win or even lost some times but I think this season there haven’t been many games where we’ve been a long way off of it or nowhere near our best.

Sometimes we’ve not scored enough goals or scored at the right times and you get punished for that in this league and we’ve felt that, but we’re confident, we go into every game wanting to win and hopefully next week will be another good result.

How does not playing this week change the mood around the camp?

It doesn’t change much to be fair. Obviously, we want to play all the time, we want to play every game possible but we’ll get a good week in this week. Everyone enjoys training and then we’ll prepare well for Saturday.

How deliberate was the goal Scott, did you see it coming?

I can’t say I meant it too much to be fair, I didn’t have much time to react. It just hit me, I didn’t really know what I was doing and I tried getting out of the way, to be honest. I haven’t seen it back so I’m not sure if it was going in but Anis would probably say it was going in.
