Ex-Wire forward takes up coaching reins at Crosfields
A FORMER Warrington Wolves hooker is back at the community club where it all started for him and is searching for new recruits.
Alex Thompson has been named coach of the new Crosfields under 18s team, 15 years after his debut for ‘The Wire’.
He brings plenty of experience into the role at a club where he spent all of his junior career.
“I signed for Warrington at 16 and made my Super League debut at 19, and was there for five years,” said Thompson, who hails from Penketh.
“I left and signed for Oldham for two seasons, then I was club captain at Oxford for two seasons.
“After that I joined North Wales Crusaders for six years and captained them in the last season.”
His coaching journey started as assistant coach to Leigh East’s open-age side for two seasons but is now looking forward to putting his efforts back into his former grassroots club and highlighted what he hopes to achieve in charge of the new under 18s side.
“The team’s aim is to just have local lads enjoying their rugby and then see how we go,” he said.
“It’s a new side so not entirely sure what league we will be going into yet, but I do think we will have a good side as there has been a lot of interest already.”
Training will be on Tuesday and Thursday nights and anybody wanting more information can contact 07858 559529 or visit the Crosfields account on any of their social media channels.
