Abdul Fatawu is a serious doubt for Leicester City’s crunch Premier League clash at Ipswich after the winger suffered a groin injury in training.

Fatawu has undergone a scan on the issue and while City manager Steve Cooper did not definitively rule the Ghanaian in or out of Saturday’s trip to Portman Road, it doesn’t sound promising. He would be a big miss for what is a significant fixture between two sides expected to battle relegation this season.

“Abdul was not available for the game last night because of his groin,” Cooper said at his press conference on Thursday afternoon. “We’re waiting on a scan. He picked up a pain in his groin in the build-up to United. It certainly ruled him out of that.

“We’ll see what the scan brings. Hopefully it’s positive news in terms of when he’ll be back. When you send them for scans, you sometimes fear the worst and hope for the best. We’ll see.”

There is good news though, with Victor Kristiansen back in training after his own groin problem. The left-back has missed the past two games, but a return to fitness could see him rival Ricardo Pereira for a spot in the back four at Ipswich.

In further good news, striker Patson Daka is back in full training for the first time since his ankle surgery in the summer. Building fitness is now his aim.

Cooper said: “He (Kristiansen) trained this morning for the first time. Pato is back in training as well. Michael Golding, he had a little spell out, and he is back in training. Jannik returned to the pitch last night. On that front, apart from Abdul, it’s fairly positive.”
