Barnsley vs Fleetwood: Police investigating incident after claims manager was left with 'blood pouring from his face'
Police are investigating an incident after Barnsley’s game with Fleetwood Town allegedly left one manager with a bloodied face.
Town manager Joey Barton is reportedly part of the investigation after an alleged assault on Barnsley manager Daniel Stendel in the tunnel at Oakwell.
Reports suggest the managers had to be separated by stewards and police after the hosts beat Fleetwood 4-2.
Footage tweeted by Sky Sports News showed Barton leaving the ground, but the car he was travelling in was stopped from leaving the stadium’s car park.
A Barnsley statement read: “The club can confirm there was an alleged incident in the tunnel area that took place following the conclusion of today’s match, which South Yorkshire police are currently investigating.
“The club is assisting the police with its enquiries and, as a result, we are not in a position to make any further comment at this time.”
Barnsley striker Cauley Woodrow tweeted the Fleetwood manager confronted Stendel following the game, but it has subsequently been deleted.
Woodrow, a goal scorer, claimed his manager was left with ‘blood pouring from his face.’
Neither club fulfilled their post-match media duties after the match, which saw Harry Souttar sent off for the visitors with Barnsley leading 2-1.
A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “We are aware of something that has taken place in the tunnel after the game and we are investigating.”
