Staff at Chesham United were left ‘horrified’ this week after the club’s smoker’s cabin was ‘completely obliterated’ days before their FA Cup clash.

The structure, which sits outside the football club’s ground was destroyed when a lorry carrying a vehicle crashed into it on Wednesday.

Photos shared on social media showed the wooden corner beam had been knocked over, causing the cabin to become unsafe.

The incident took place at 11.19am.

Club chairman, Peter Brown, said he only became aware sometime later when workers preparing the ground for the upcoming clash with Lincoln City called him.

He told the Free Press: “I was just totally horrified. It is not what we need with what is happening in the footballing world at the moment.

“We were just very fortunate that we had people working on-site at the time.

“We have had to fix it because we had no choice because we have got this rather large game of football happening.”

The vehicle was identified using the club’s CCTV and upon phoning the company that owned the lorry, they apologised and pledged to resolve the issue.

Scaffolders, working to erect stands for the FA Cup match, banded together, along with a nearby builder to remove the structure.

The area was then cleared to allow repairs to take place.

The chairman added: “We have got no complaints, just a tad miffed this incident has happened.

“It is just something you just have to take in your step and work along with.

“The company were quite brilliant when we phoned them and said what the problem was.

“They dealt with the matter very quickly so we can just move on.

“We have got a game of football to win and that is the most important thing.”

In a social media post, he thanked A P Green Ltd builders and Jack Rivans of Rivans Electrical for their “promptness” in dealing with the issue.

A new shelter for smokers is expected to arrive early next week.

The cost of the repairs is unknown at this time but it is thought that the company whose vehicle damaged the structure will cover the bill.

The Generals are due to take on Lincoln at The Meadow at 7.15pm on Monday evening (November 4) with a total of 600 away tickets allocated for the match.
