On Saturday, Cleeve lost an incident-packed Southern League Division One South match in Wiltshire, going down 1-0 at Westbury United.

The first incident came in the sixth minute when Lewis Clayton rushed out of goal and brought down Josh Jenkins, who stepped up to give the hosts the lead.

On the half-hour, Mat Liddiard and Westbury’s Joe Beardwell collided in the box with the Cleeve man receiving a straight red card.

It was a different penalty taker this time with Clayton producing a good save from Bevan Cross’ effort to keep the score at 1-0.

Manager Paul Collicutt described the first half as one of the worst first half performances from his side this season but they stepped it up after the break.

With a quarter of an hour to go, both sides were down to 10 men as Westbury’s Ryan Bole was adjudged to have elbowed Aaron Evans-Harriott.

This happened just after a fantastic double save by Clayton had stopped the hosts going 2-0 up, and in the sixth minute of stoppage time, Joe Selman’s header was tipped onto the crossbar and he netted the follow-up, but the linesman’s flag was up for offside cutting the celebrations short and ensuring Cleeve left Wiltshire without a point and drop out of the play-off spots.

But Evesham United are still in there, lying fourth after their 1-0 win at Melksham Town.

The only goal came after 19 minutes through Josh Barlow’s 25-yard effort after Evesham played most of second half with 10 men.

Chris Bell’s header rescued a point for bottom side Cinderford Town as they drew 2-2 with Mousehole at The Causeway.

Cinderford went in front on 17 minutes as Marley Thomas, freed Blaine Waugh down the right, and his cross found Alex Bonthron unmarked at the far post to nod into an empty net for his eighth goal in six games for the Foresters.

Mousehole equalised six minutes later when Hayden Turner fired a low delivery across the face of goal which was bundled into the net at the far post by Oli Challinor, Cinderford losing Joe Keeping to injury as he tried to prevent the goal.

The Cornish side went in front after 69 minutes when Turner’s attempt was beaten away by Joel Manning, only for Turner to turn on the ball to fire an angled rising drive into the roof of the net.

Cinderford’s leveller came 15 minutes from time when a free-kick saw Bell shrug off Ryan Barrett’s attentions and rise superbly to send a header flashing high into the net from a few yards out, and they held on despite a late red card for skipper Dale Evans.

Tuffley Rovers and Slimbridge scored 2-0 Hellenic League Premier Division away wins at Brimscombe & Thrupp and Cirencester Town on Saturday.
