The forgotten Stoke City tradition that ended in a pub crawl
There are some fantastic photos from Stoke City's 2-1 home win over Derby County 20 years ago as Ade Akinbiyi celebrates his goal alongside more than a hundred Elvis Presley impersonators.
Stoke meet Derby at the bet365 Stadium today (12.30pm) and it is unlikely there will be quite the same display of fancy dress as there was back in January 2004, when a group of Elvis and Stoke fans raised money for the Donna Louise Trust and belted out the King's songs in a half-time karaoke competition.
That was reported to be the sixth consecutive season that Stoke had held an Elvis Day and every time the archive Sentinel stories mention the trademark quiffs and flares that turned up in the east stand - and that the group had gone on from the game into the city for a pub crawl and further entertainment.

The annual Elvis event was organised by a group of supporters who traditionally wore fancy dress for a festive fixture decided to all turn up en masse as Elvis for a game against Gillingham in December 1998. They were paraded around the pitch and got the biggest cheer of the day as the action ended 0-0.
It carried on until 2004 and the friends dressed up as Elvis for England matches too, most memorably at Euro 2004 in Portugal., but it seems like, at least for now, Elvis has left the building. Maybe it's time for a comeback special.
