Former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has been fined roughly £20,000 by the Turkish Football Federation for his rant in the aftermath of Fenerbahce's 3-2 win against Trabzonspor on Sunday.

The 61-year-old celebrated ecstatically as Sofyan Amrabat scored the winning goal deep into stoppage time to keep his side within touching distance of league leaders Galatasaray.

But victory wasn't enough to stop him from taking aim at the standard of refereeing in Turkey.

“We play against a system. And to play against a system is the most difficult thing," said Mourinho. "Tonight we play against a good team, against a strong atmosphere, against VAR, and against a system. So very hard.”

And those comments, which were part of an extraordinary eight-minute rant from the three-time Premier League winner, have resulted in Mourinho being hit with a £22,000 fine.

A statement released by the TFF on Thursday read: "In the post-match flash interview and press conference are evaluated as a whole; the statements in question are contrary to sportsmanship, sports ethics or the concept of fair play, damage the reputation of the TFF, aim to diminish the value of Turkish football, cast a shadow over the impartiality of the referees and other match officials, and are therefore punished with a discretionary fine of 900,000 TL in accordance with Article 38/4-a of the FDT due to Unsportsmanlike Statements."

The two-time Champions League winner has also been hit with a fine of roughly £1,300 and a one-match ban from entering the dressing room and touchline for unsportsmanlike behaviour toward opposition fans.
