Former Crystal Palace boss Patrick Vieira appointed Genoa manager
Former Crystal Palace boss Patrick Vieira has been confirmed as the new manager of Serie A side Genoa.
The club, which is for sale due to the collapse of 777 partners, dismissed Alberto Gilardino after falling to 17th in the Italian top flight just 12 games into the season.
Heading to the city of Italy’s largest port, Vieira has banked senior managerial experience at New York FC, Nice, Palace and Strasbourg.

Vieira spent 19 months at Palace, securing a 12th-placed finish in the Premier League while taking the Eagles to an FA Cup semi-final in his first season in charge. However, his second term ended in disaster, with the Frenchman sacked following 12 games without a win.
Most recently, Vieira took charge of BlueCo-owned Strasbourg in his native France but departed the club a year into his tenure with the Todd Boehly-led outfit caught in an identity crisis.
After four months out of management, Vieira’s first game at the helm of Italy's oldest club comes on Sunday against Cagliari at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium.
