Former Hull KR player Brad Takairangi's historic weekend shows international games' value
Former Hull Kingston Rovers player Brad Takairangi will be part of the first-ever brother-and-sister combination to captain their respective national teams on the same day and it shows the family pride the international game can bring.
In a men's and women's double header on Saturday, Takairangi will captain the Cook Islands men's team and sister Kiana will captain the women's team. Former Robin Takairangi is one of several men to have featured at Craven Park in recent times who are in international set-ups this weekend.
Although he had a troubled spell at Rovers, having injury and off-field issues, Takairangi can now look forward to being part of history. The pride that he and his sister show when speaking about what is going to happen illustrates how the international game can have value to people's lives. He will be in the halves for the Cook Islands alongside Salford Red Devils-bound Esan Marsters, with both having previously played for New Zealand, and his sister will be at full back in the women's game.

When Cook Islands men played Fiji last year it was an entertaining contest that they lost 22-18 and this fixture also promises to be interesting, while the women's teams both have several players with NRLW experience.
The former Hull KR player told the NRL website: "It's awesome, I've had the opportunity to captain these boys a few times already and to see my little sister be able to do the same thing for her team is really special. I'm sure that our parents are really proud."
Kiana Taikirangi added: "My dad (former Parramatta player Louis Takairangi) is a very proud Cook Islander and he is always very supportive of us representing his country so no doubt he'll be over the moon."
