Former Premier League star and assistant to Fulham boss Marco Silva wants Coventry City job
Former Arsenal, Fulham and West Ham star Luis Boa Morte is among the large number of applicants for the new head coach role at Coventry City.
Club owner Doug King sacked long-standing manager Mark Robins last week and is now looking to change the Sky Blues management model, going for a more modern head coach working under a sporting director. King revealed earlier this week that the club have already been inundated with applications to succeed Robins, having received up to 80 in the first few days following his decision to make the change.
Among those putting in their CV is, he revealed, former Derby, Chelsea and Everton boss Frank Lampard. And CoventryLive understands that another former Premier League player in Boa Morte has also applied.

The 47-year-old former Portugal international started his playing career at Sporting Lisbon before becoming Arsene Wenger’s first signing, going on to play in Arsenal’s double winning 1997–98 season. A lively and aggressive winger/forward in his day, he went on to play for Southampton in the top flight before leading Fulham to promotion from the second tier with 18 goals in 2001. He spent six years at Craven Cottage, gaining cult hero status amid over 200 appearances for the London club before switching to West Ham where he played 91 more top flight games.
After hanging up his boots, Boa Morte went into coaching, starting out at his former club Fulham’s Academy and going on to gain his Level 5 UEFA Pro-Licence in coaching.
He was then appointed assistant manager of his first club, Sporting CP’s B team before taking charge of the Under-19s. Boa Morte then joined Arsenal’s scouting set-up before moving back home to his native Portugal to manage Portimonense’s U23 squad. A move to Israel followed to become assistant manager of Maccabi Haifa in 2019.
He then got the call from Marco Silva to assist him at Everton, and then followed Silva to Fulham in 2021 as his assistant and first team coach. He left Fulham at the end of last season to take up the role as manager of the Guinea-Bissau national team.
