Freak Scottish Championship fixture quirk sees direct battles pitched from top to bottom
The top flight is taking a back seat for yet another international break but the Championship is soldiering on.
And the second tier is bringing all the quirk this weekend as the fixture list has thrown up a rare yet bizarre anomaly with this weekend's game. Each team is playing the one directly below or above them in the table, meaning it's 1st vs 2nd, 3rd vs 4th, 5th vs 6th, 7th vs 8th and 9th vs 10th.
The top of the table clash and SPFL game of the weekend sees leaders Falkirk travel to Livingston, with the Bairns looking to extend a formidable record as John McGlynn eyes successive promotions after last season's Invincible campaign. Relegated Livi are hunting an immediate return to the top table and Davie Martindale's men have been motoring along under the radar. They can't go top with a win, but could cut the gap at the summit to just three points.
Scott Brown's Ayr United host Queen's Park in a battle of the playoff hopefuls. It's a similar story in Maryhill with Partick Thistle taking on Hamilton while Raith Rovers welcome Greenock Morton to Stark's Park. At the bottom, Fife rivals Dunfermline can move into double figures for points by beating basement boys Airdrie at East End Park.
