Fulham vs Arsenal LIVE! Premier League result, match stream and latest updates today

Fulham vs Arsenal LIVE!

Arsenal have been left reeling after another damaging defeat dealt a huge new blow to their Premier League title hopes. Victory in another London derby on New Year's Eve would have meant them entering 2024 on top of the table, but instead they remain down in fourth behind leaders Liverpool, Aston Villa and Manchester City after another dismal loss to follow Thursday's home reverse against West Ham.

The Gunners actually took the lead inside five minutes at Craven Cottage on Sunday as Bukayo Saka turned in the rebound after former Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno had denied Gabriel Martinelli, but they were completely flat thereafter as the returning Raul Jimenez deservedly fired Fulham level after half an hour.

The hosts were the better side after the interval too as Bobby De Cordova-Reid slammed in following a corner to end Fulham's run of three straight league losses without scoring to pick up their first win over Arsenal since 2012. Mikel Arteta's men end 2023 having won just one of their last five league games and could be out of the top four altogether by the time they play again following their upcoming winter break, with Tottenham just a point behind now in fifth after beating Bournemouth. Follow Fulham vs Arsenal reaction live below, with expert analysis from Standard Sport's Simon Collings at Craven Cottage.

Fulham 2-1 Arsenal

15:32 , George Flood

68 mins: So it's a rare front two from Arsenal now with Jesus joining Nketiah up top.

Just over 20 minutes for them to save this...

Fulham 1-1 Arsenal

15:18 , George Flood

56 mins: Plenty more Arsenal possession but it's all being played in front of Fulham, who are maintaining their shape and defensive discipline very well.

Final ball seriously lacking from the visitors, who need Saliba to bail them out at the back as Fulham try to release Jimenez on the counter.

Fulham 1-1 Arsenal

15:16 , George Flood

54 mins: More errant passing from Arsenal as they hold possession and probe patiently for an opening, only for Saka to drift across and then gift the ball straight to Fulham.

The Gunners have been really poor in possession for the most part so far today.

Fulham 1-1 Arsenal

A huge second half ahead for Arsenal.

Fulham 1-1 Arsenal

49 mins: Physical, disciplined Fulham are pressing and then reverting back to their solid shape well as Martinelli is driven almost back to the halfway line and they almost win it back with numbers for the counter-attack.

A wild effort from Rice then draws ironic cheers from the home crowd.

Fulham 1-1 Arsenal

32 mins: Some feisty challenges going in now as these London rivals wrestle for control with the scoreline level.

Odegaard tries to take down Saka's ball and it deflects off Cairney, with Nketiah's scuffed effort easily held by Leno.

Arsenal need to wake up here. They've been so flat since scoring the opener.

Bassey wins a big challenge with Saka to start Fulham's latest attack, with Palhinha moving the ball out wide to Willian.

Willian slips in Cairney, whose excellent cross is fired in expertly underneath Raya by Jimenez, who had snuck in behind Kiwior.

Fulham deserve that for their lively response to falling behind inside five minutes.

17 mins: Fulham get to the byline down the right and attempt a cross that is overhit and falls safe.

Kiwior is being tasked with replicating Zinchenko today and he's tucking in a lot to midfield.

Intrigued to see how he gets on, so many struggle to do that role well.

Fulham 0-1 Arsenal

15 mins: Fulham's first chance of the game falls to Jimenez, whose drive from the edge of the box is well stopped by Raya.

5 mins: An early lead for the title chasers!

A fine Fulham pass picks out Castagne, whose cross from the byline is easily claimed by Raya.

Raya quickly rolls it out for Havertz, who finds Martinelli and the Brazilian charges down the left, cuts inside and bends a shot that is parried by former Arsenal goalkeeper Leno into the path of Saka, who is just onside as he puts the rebound in.

His sixth league goal of the season stands after a VAR check for offside.

Eddie Nketiah is often viewed as a 'super sub' by Arsenal fans, largely because of his debut against Norwich.

Confirmation from Arsenal that Oleksandr Zinchenko misses out today with a minor calf injury.

A little break could be the best thing for him after his recent defensive drop-off that culminated in a really poor performance against West Ham.

Jakub Kiwior has hardly impressed either though since joining the club, so let's see if he can step up today.

A lot of pressure on Eddie Nketiah this afternoon too.

Three Fulham changes as Jimenez and Willian start

Fulham also show three changes to the team beaten 3-0 by in-form Bournemouth last time out.

Raul Jimenez returns from suspension to spearhead the attack in place of Rodrigo Muniz, while Willian is passed fit to face his former club after hamstring trouble and starts in place of Andreas Pereira.

At right-back, Timothy Castagne is preferred to Kenny Tete.

Three Arsenal changes with Tomiyasu back in squad

13:13 , George Flood

So Takehiro Tomiyasu is indeed back on the bench for Arsenal today after almost a month out with a calf problem.

Kai Havertz returns to midfield as expected in one of three changes to the side that started against West Ham, with Gabriel Jesus dropped to the bench after a wasteful display and Oleksandr Zinchenko - arguably culpable for both Hammers goals on Thursday - not involved at all due to what Arsenal have described as a "slight calf issue".

Jakub Kiwior is in at left-back instead as Eddie Nketiah leads the attack, while Leandro Trossard makes way for Havertz.

Tomiyasu travels with Arsenal squad after injury

12:43 , George Flood

It is being reported on social media that Takehiro Tomiyasu HAS travelled with the Arsenal squad to Craven Cottage this afternoon.

The versatile defender, who had been in great form this season and earned player of the month honours in October, has not played since suffering a calf injury in the 2-1 win over Wolves on December 2.

A nice boost for Mikel Arteta to have him back, though it's worth remembering that he's off to the Asian Cup in Qatar with Japan very soon.

Marco Silva wants new Fulham signings in January

12:33 , George Flood

It is easy to forget that before their recent bad run, Fulham hit both Nottingham Forest and West Ham for five in back-to-back games and also beat Everton on penalties to reach their first-ever Carabao Cup semi-final and a first domestic cup semi-final of any kind for 22 years.

And Marco Silva wants the club to add more depth to his squad in January in order to cope with the inevitable injuries and fatigue that may have knocked them off course as he searches for greater consistency on the pitch.

"What we can do behind the scenes to improve our squad is of course something I would like to see, I'm open for it and I want it as well," he said this week.

"My job is to focus on the players we have and if we have 19 or 20 players, my job is to push them, make them go forward and to demand more and more every time.

"I would like to see a little bit more consistency. This is what I would like to see in the next months.

"It is important (to build squad depth). It is going to happen where we have injuries and the more of the same quality overall that you have I think will be better for us."

Marco Silva wary of tough challenge against 'top side' Arsenal

12:25 , George Flood

After three straight Premier League defeats without scoring against Bournemouth, Burnley and Newcastle that has dropped them to 14th in the table and only six points above the relegation zone, Marco Silva is certainly not underestimating the challenge facing his out-of-form Fulham side to close out 2023.

The Cottagers have not won any of their last 11 matches against Arsenal, stretching back to January 2012.

"They are a top side, no doubt," Silva said.

"Their defensive organisation is really good and with their positional attack it means they can perform at the highest level.

"They have the capacity to push a team back really low and it is difficult to press them really high because when they beat the pressure they are a tough team to face.

"(Oleksandr) Zinchenko gives them quality with an extra man in the middle and the likes of (Gabriel) Martinelli, (Bukayo) Saka, (Martin) Odegaard and (Kai) Havertz are a threat and can punish any team in this country.

"We need to be well organised and stick together in certain moments. They are pressing us, putting us under pressure in moments and when we have the ball we have to express ourselves as well."

Arteta: Now is not the time for Arsenal to look at other teams

12:06 , George Flood

As with every team in the Premier League, Arsenal are currently in the midst of a hectic fixture list that will at least offer some respite in January.

After today, the Gunners host Liverpool again in the FA Cup third round next Sunday, but do not play again after that until they entertain Crystal Palace at the Emirates on January 20.

Some questioned if fatigue may have played a part against West Ham with Arsenal now having a very settled first XI aside from their injuries and that brief Kai Havertz suspension, though Arteta does not believe any rests are needed as he also warned against looking at how their rivals are faring in the title race.

“Obviously there are a lot of games but they looked really good, looked fresh. When you win, you don’t look at that," Arteta said.

[object Object] (Getty Images)
[object Object] (Getty Images)

"They are young. If they were 35 maybe it would be a different question. They are young, they have a lot of energy. They can keep going, that is for sure.

“We can be second as well. And if we win at Fulham we can be first. We have to do what we can control. It’s not time to look at other teams.

"You see how difficult it is for other teams and it is going to continue to be like that, because the level of the league is incredible.”

Arteta urges Arsenal to 'improve in both boxes' after West Ham loss

11:56 , George Flood

Arsenal were notably below par in their first home defeat of the season in any competition against West Ham on Thursday and their third overall in this top-flight campaign - two more than leaders Liverpool.

Despite boasting 74 per cent possession and having 30 shots on the night, they lacked spark and ingenuity in attack and did not impress in key moments at the back.

Unsurprisingly, Mikel Arteta has since called for his side to sharpen up at both ends of the pitch in order to avoid title heartbreak for the second successive season.

"There's no panic, it's about trying to do more and do better and win games," he said.

"If the team is playing like this, then you're going to go and win a lot of games.

"If we don't improve in the boxes, then no (we won't win the league). Because, in the end, that (the West Ham result) is what it is.

"But generating the rest, it was a record. So I don't think there are many teams in the league who have done that over many years, so it's something positive I think."

Fulham vs Arsenal prediction

11:44 , George Flood

Arsenal have enjoyed their trips to Craven Cottage in recent seasons, and will be confident of swiftly returning to winning ways today.

There are still questions for the Gunners' frontline to answer, but Fulham have looked vulnerable at the back and it would be a surprise if they were able to keep Arsenal quiet.

Arsenal team news

Arsenal also have an important player returning from suspension today in Kai Havertz, with the versatile German midfielder having missed the defeat by West Ham after incurring an automatic one-match ban by picking up his fifth yellow card of the season in the thrilling 1-1 draw with title rivals Liverpool at Anfield.

He should return to Mikel Arteta's starting lineup today in place of Leandro Trossard, who did not take his chance on Thursday.

Takehiro Tomiyasu and Thomas Partey have been edging closer to their respective returns but seem unlikely to feature today, though they are running out of chances before they head off to the Asian Cup and Africa Cup of Nations respectively in January.

Fabio Vieira and Jurrien Timber are definitely still sidelined.

Fulham team news

11:38 , George Flood

Goal-shy Fulham will be boosted today by the return of summer striker signing Raul Jimenez, who had finally hit the goal trail before his sending off in the 3-0 defeat at Newcastle on December 16 that earned him a three-match ban.

However, a hamstring issue has rendered experienced Brazilian wing Willian as a doubt to face one of his former clubs this afternoon.

Defender Tim Ream, who recently signed a new one-year contract extension, is out with a calf issue, while Adama Traore also has a hamstring problem.

Welcome to Fulham vs Arsenal live coverage

11:33 , George Flood

Good morning and a very warm welcome to Standard Sport's live coverage of Fulham vs Arsenal in the Premier League.

We've got a huge afternoon in store as the Gunners make the trip from north to west across London for another capital derby looking to bounce back swiftly from their shock 2-0 home loss to West Ham on Thursday night.

Mikel Arteta's side have fallen down to fourth in the table after Aston Villa and Manchester City both won yesterday, though a triumph today would take them back to the top to see in the New Year with current leaders Liverpool not in action until hosting Newcastle at Anfield tomorrow.

Fulham have not beaten Arsenal in any competition since 2012, but will be desperate for a positive result here having now lost three successive league matches without scoring to drop them to 14th and overshadow their impressive run to the Carabao Cup semi-finals under Marco Silva.

Kick-off this afternoon is at 2pm GMT, so stay tuned for all the latest team news and live updates including expert analysis from Standard Sport's Arsenal correspondent Simon Collings at Craven Cottage.
