Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola was left seething after Arsenal's equaliser in the huge Premier League title clash at Etihad Stadium. Erling Haaland fired the hosts into an early lead after great work by Savinho to escape the challenge of Riccardo Calafiori.

The Gunners responded to going behind by making a few forays forward, though City's threat was still clear. Ilkay Gundogan struck the post from a free-kick with a corner arriving soon after, however Guardiola was instead handed a major blow from that set-piece.

After colliding with Thomas Partey, Rodri went over awkwardly on his knee with the Spain international left in some discomfort. Mateo Kovacic swiftly replaced City's lynchpin with matters then going bad to worse for Guardiola and his players.

With City's backline caught napping after Partey took a quick free kick, Martinelli found himself in behind and bearing down on goal. The Brazil international opted to lay it back to Calafiori with the Italy international bending an effort perfectly into the far corner to bring the visitors level.

After seeing his long-range effort fly into the top corner, Calafiori turned and run towards the touchline before jumping into the arms of Mikel Arteta. Back on the pitch, City players surrounded Michael Oliver with Walker leading the protests.

The reason for their anger was because the set-piece was allowed to be taken even though Walker had not got back to his position after being called over by Oliver. Ederson was also booked for dissent, though judging by his reaction, Guardiola was by far the angriest member of City's squad.

Touchline cameras caught him with shock on his face at the goal being allowed before he furiously kicked his designated seat in the dugout. In the wake of Arsenal's equaliser, the game began to settle down with Gabriel going closest to scoring the game's third goal.

Exactly as he did last weekend in the North London Derby win against Tottenham, the central defender got free of his man from a corner but this time his header flew over the bar. Just minutes later though, the same exact corner routine played out with Gabriel this time finding the back of the net to put Arsenal ahead.

The hectic opening 45 minutes was not finished there though with Leandro Trossard shown a second yellow card after kicking the ball away following a foul on Bernardo Silva.
