Derek McInnes hopes Gary Mackay-Steven sticks around for next season as Kilmarnock prepare to have a crack at Europe.

GMS joined Killie on a short-term deal in December and made one start in 10 appearances for the Ayrshire club. But the 33-year-old winger showed he still has some magic left in his locker by netting the opener in Saturday's 1-1 draw at Dens Park. McInnes worked with the ex-Celtic star at Aberdeen and expects him to extend his stay at Rugby Park.

He said: "I have spoken to him. We have had a positive conversation. He is really enjoying it. It has been difficult with the form of Danny [Armstrong]. It has been difficult to find somewhere else in the team for Gaz.

"His speed is good, his stats are brilliant in training - his strength and work rate. He looks like a boy who is enjoying being fit after his difficulties at Hearts.

"Yes, he is not getting any younger but my eyes tell me everything. He can still hit those high speeds, be strong enough and affect games. He still has that quality that a club like Kilmarnock should always search for. It is affordable and hopefully he will jump on board again."
