Giovanni van Bronckhorst has been publicly backed by Besiktas president Hasan Arat as he told punters NOT to expect change at the top.

The former Rangers boss, who lost his job in Govan just shy of two years ago, has come in for some criticism with his side sitting in fifth spot in the Turkish Super Lig - 10 points behind leaders and city rivals Galatasaray after just 11 games. They've picked up just one point from the last nine with one of defeats to the table toppers. But club bosses have sent a strong message by insisting the league title bid is not over and people should not compare the current crop to the one of last season as they are not the same.

Van Bronckhorst got a Europa League boost last time out with his troops defeating Malmo to take them onto six points from four games and keep them in the hunt for the knockout rounds. They also picked up an impressive away win at Lyon in the competition after losing their first two matches at Ajax and at home to Bundesliga outfit Frankfurt.

Speaking about Gio's future in the Turkish press, Arat said, "We believe in the team and Giovanni van Bronckhorst. Nobody should expect a change. We have goals. The Beşiktaş community is upset and sad.

"This is a newly established team, they should support their team. We have a serious chance in Europe, the league is not over yet. They should not compare us to last year, this team is not the same team."

Van Bronckhorst is in his first gig since his stint at Rangers, who have since had Michael Beale and now Philippe Clement in charge in Glasgow. The current boss has been feeling the heat of late after finding himself trailing Celtic and Aberdeen by nine points at the Premiership summit.

However, he has eased some of the pressure going into the November international break after securing a Premier Sports Cup Final showdown with Brendan Rodgers at Hampden next month while also picking up three points at home to Hearts last time out and securing a share of the spoils at Greek giants Olympiacos in the Europa League.
