Glen appoint former Donegal All-Ireland winner as their new senior football manager
Glen have moved swiftly to appoint a new manager with Rory Kavanagh set to take over from Malachy O’Rourke.
In September it was confirmed that O’Rourke would be taking over as the new Tyrone senior football manager following the departure of Feargal Logan and Brian Dooher.
With Glen still chasing a fourth successive Derry SFC title, O’Rourke agreed to stay on until the end of the season with the reigning All-Ireland club champions.

However, their season finished with a shock defeat to Newbridge in the Derry SFC final a fortnight ago.
The Watty Graham’s have wasted little time in finding a replacement with former Donegal star Kavanagh stepping into the role.
He guided his native St Eunan’s to a Donegal SFC title in 2021 and they were denied back-to-back titles in 2022 following a narrow loss to Glenties with Shane O’Donnell’s controversial red card contributing to their 1-09 to 2-5 defeat.
Kavanagh was the front-runner for the vacant Donegal post before being overlooked in favour of Paddy Carr, although Carr stepped down at the end of the 2023 League campaign leaving Aidan O’Rourke and Paddy Bradley to take charge for the remainder of the season.
News of Kavanagh’s appointment comes days after another high-profile appointment in the Derry club scene with former Tyrone, Louth and Derry coach Gavin Devlin taking over as Magherafelt boss while Slaughtneil are also on the hunt for a new manager following the departure of Mark Doran.
