Golf: Pirates overcome poor conditions to post win

Apr. 5—LAWRENCEBURG — Greensburg traveled to Hidden Valley Golf Course to battle EIAC foes East Central and Lawrenceburg. The toughest obstacle for all three teams was the weather conditions.

The Pirates were able to hold off East Central by four strokes to take top honors. Greensburg finished with 187 followed by the Trojans 191 and Lawrenceburg 197.

Greensburg's Colten Schroeder and Lawrenceburg's Cam Williamson shared medalist honors by carding 41.

"It's always good to come away with some conference wins, but it was a dreadful night on the golf course. In the cold, wet and windy conditions, good scores were certainly hard to come by. We also had some unfamiliarity with the course, so hopefully we were able to learn some things in preparation for the conference meet there in May," Greensburg Coach Bryce Mize said. "Though it was a tough night, we have to learn how to battle through and stay focused. Colten did an excellent job of that."

Greensburg's Logan Simpson finished with 47. Brant Acra was a shot back with 48. Hunter Springmeyer finished with 51. Reece Chapman had 56 and Kaden Acton 63.

Rushville

LAWRENCEBURG — The Lions also opened the season at Lawrenceburg, taking on the host Tigers and Milan. Rain and 38 degrees challenged the golfers and it was Milan that conquered the conditions and the 3-team match.

Milan finished with a team-total 186. Lawrenceburg took second with 205 and Rushville had 216.

The Lions were led by Griffin Norris, tied for fourth overall with 48. Brody Terrell tied for sixth with 49. Caleb Schelle shot 59. Mason Mosburg carded 60 and Kyle Jacobs shot 61.
