Goole Vikings have signed another former Hull FC academy player in Jeylan Hodgson. The 19-year-old is the club’s 15th new addition ahead of their inaugural League 1 season and the seventh to have connections to the Black and Whites.

He joins fellow Hull-born players Lennon Bursell and Mackenzie Harman, with Callum Rutland, Reece Dean, Jack Aldous, and Jamie Shaul all on the books.

Hodgson spent one year in the Hull academy before playing for the reserves this year as part of the first-team squad. He has also played in Australia and will now try his luck at the East Yorkshire club after a brief stint with Doncaster in the Championship.

"I’m really excited to join the Vikings," Hodgson said. "The club has a project in place that looks really promising and exciting and it’s great to be part of it. I sat down with Scott (Taylor) and Clarky (James Clark) a month or so ago and was told the ins and outs of what they have planned and it was really impressive.

"Being able to play a role in the future of the club and actually feeling like I’m part of something is what persuaded me the most to join the club."

He continued: "I’d like to think I can be an aggressive and confident defender as well as fast from the spot in attack, and I am focused on providing the best service I can."

Meanwhile, Taylor believes Hodgson has all the attributes to be an ‘effective’ dummy-half. He added: "Like a lot of the young players we have signed, Jeylan is someone we have identified with a really high ceiling to his potential and the right attitude and professionalism to hopefully reach that.

"Our aim is to work with him to help him realise that talent and his career ambitions, which we are in no doubt he can achieve with plenty of hard work. His experience in Australia and since returning to Hull has stood him in great stead, it has given him a taste of what to expect moving forward.

"He has a level head, he works really hard as a player and has all the attributes to be an effective dummy half—we think he can be a key player for us this season."
