Graeme Souness had a succinct response for Simon Jordan after the latter cast doubt on Jurgen Klopp's status as an elite manager.

The revered Liverpool gaffer, who is set to oversee his final match at the helm against Wolves on Sunday, has cemented his legendary status at Anfield.

His tenure saw the Reds clinch their first Premier League title in three decades in 2020 and secure their sixth European crown in 2019, among other accolades, reports the Mirror.

Klopp has been celebrated as one of football's top managers since his time with Borussia Dortmund, and he has undeniably etched his name into the annals of Premier League managerial greats.

In a debate about the world's elite football managers on William Hill's 'Three Up Front' podcast, which features Simon Jordan, Graeme Souness, and Troy Deeney, ex-Crystal Palace chairman Jordan aired his views on what constitutes elite management, simultaneously taking a swipe at Arsenal's Mikel Arteta for his relatively sparse trophy cabinet.

"He's won nothing outside an FA Cup, yet you think he's an elite manager, Alonso's changed the rules because normally you need a bit of stability and need time and I think that's a crock of s*** by the way, the only stability you get is how well you do the job and how you're showing people that your progressing," Jordan opined.

Concentrating his attention on Klopp, Souness was asked: "So what does Klopp look like then when we talk about elite management, does he look like an elite manager?" In response, the former Liverpool boss simply answered, "By what standards?"

The question was subsequently quashed by the Scotsman who replied, "Winning trophies", during their conversation on the financial obstacles that Klopp has had to navigate in his nine years on Merseyside compared to his league rivals.

"He comes into a league where they have spent a fraction of the team to catch," commented Souness. "At the same time, Manchester United and Chelsea have spent twice as much."
