Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong drops big Wrexham gig hint after visiting with Ryan Reynolds
Green Day singer Billie Joe Armstrong has seemingly opened the door to the possibility of playing a gig at Wrexham AFC's Racecourse Ground.
It comes after the frontman paid a visit to the Red Dragons' home stadium to watch their 2-2 draw with Cambridge United alongside co-owner Ryan Reynolds on Saturday.
Armstrong spent time before the match chatting to supporters in a fan zone next to The Turf pub, which features prominently on the Welcome to Wrexham documentary.

While Green Day are normally used to selling out huge stadiums like Wembley, the “American Idiot” singer reportedly told one fan his band would be very keen to play in Wrexham.
The Racecourse has a capacity of just over 13,000 for football, but can fit around 20,000 people for concerts and has previously hosted American rockers Kings of Leon and Welsh band Stereophonics.
The conversation with Armstrong was revealed by Wrexham supporter Tim Edwards from the Fearless in Devotion podcast, who said he was taken aback by the rock star's unexpected appearance.
He said: “I got a steer that Green Day were going to be in the new Turf fan zone. There should be nothing surprising about that in the current climate, but it seemed to make no sense to me.
“Then a blacked-out Mercedes people carrier arrives, and out pops Billie Joe Armstrong. I was like, 'Jesus Christ - it's a third of Green Day'.
“This is a guy with five Grammys and 75 million albums sold worldwide. It's a big deal, so I schmoozed over to the corner where he was on the reserved Welcome to Wrexham documentary table.
“He was just lovely, posing for pictures and chilling out. I had a chat with him and I said that it would be great if you could play here one day, and he said, ‘We'd love to’.
“I wouldn't at all be surprised, because they're headlining Download Festival next year, and what a lovely little warm up show that would be.”
Armstrong is known to be a big football fan and has previously been seen at several matches involving the likes of Arsenal, Leyton Orient and Millwall.
Speaking earlier this year, he told The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X: "I love seeing the fans lose their s***."
Wrexham fans suffered head-loss on Saturday after a late penalty from Dan Nlundulu denied their side all three points against Cambridge.
James McClean cancelled out Elias Kachunga's opener at the Racecourse before Steven Fletcher looked to have grabbed the winner, only for Nlundulu's penalty to earn Cambridge a point.
Reynolds was also joined at the game by fellow actors Channing Tatum and Brandon Sklenar after they visited the Fat Boar pub in Wrexham the night before.
