DESPITE playing in damp, cold and at times blustery conditions at Ravenscraig, the Juniors squad left the stadium with the warm glow of success, after a well-earned 3-0 win over Glasgow United.

With top of the table Thorn Athletic losing to Glasgow by the odd goal in thirteen (6-7) Greenock sit in second, four points off the leaders with a game in hand.

There was precautionary pitch inspection in the morning, however given the heavy rain the surface was in remarkable condition.

Glasgow had the first chance of the game in 5 minutes. Some clever interplay by Brown and Nuri resulted in the latter firing a rather tame shot into the safe hands of Beaton.

It was an early warning shot across the bows for Greenock that the visitors carried a dangerous attacking threat.

The Nock to their credit were playing some very neat and tidy passing football, that floundered a little with poor final balls and some interventions by occasional gusts of wind.

Gradually the home side took control of the game and were constantly threatening to get the opening goal.

The deadlock was eventually broken in 21 minutes from the penalty spot.

The same move that produced the winner against Glasgow Perthshire was replicated by Sinnamon and Brown.

This time Brown’s shot was deflected off the raised hand of Glasgow’s left back McLean.

A clear penalty, which was calmly converted by Sinnamon.

Greenock were firmly in command, however a one goal lead is always dangerous and the Nock pressed hard for the buffer a second goal would bring.

They  were given fair warning that despite their dominance the lead was not enough when in 51 minutes a clearance from inside Glasgow’s own half drifted through the Nock defence allowing Brown a clear shot on goal.

Craig Beaton, in the Greenock goal, produced an exceptional save to preserve the home side’s advantage.

The much sought after second goal was added by James Marks in 53 minutes.

After a few missed opportunities put the game beyond doubt when Marks added his second and Greenock’s third in the 70th minute.

Overall, it was an impressive performance from Greenock. The side now host Dalry next week in the final league match of the current year. A win and another three points would see the Nock go into the New Year as real promotion candidates.
