Gregory Vignal eyed for QPR job as former Rangers star on shortlist to replace Marti Cifuentes
QPR are weighing up a move to make former Rangers star Gregory Vignal their new manager.
Current Loftus Road boss Marti Cifuentes is under serious pressure, with his side sitting five points adrift of safety at the bottom of the English Championship. The London club haven't won in 12 games, losing seven of them, and the Spanish coach is feeling the heat. If QPR's Malaysian owners decide to make a change, ex-Ibrox defender Vignal is on their list of potential targets.
Having watched another Frenchman, Regis Le Bris, take Sunderland to the top of the Championship, they feel Vignal could do a similar job. Le Bris was plucked from relative obscurity at Lorient in the summer and has been a revelation at the Stadium of Light. Vignal is keen to get back into management after a short stint at French third division outfit Versailles.
He's previously worked at Rangers' academy in charge of their Under-18 side and is now a fully qualified UEFA Pro Licence coach. Cifuentes faces a huge game at home to Stoke City after the international break before trips to Cardiff and Watford.
But QPR chairman Lee Hoos - who signed Vignal as a player in 2006 at Southampton when he was chief executive - is drawing up contingency plans should the Spaniard need to be replaced.
