Heung-min Son delivers verdict on Dominic Solanke signing with Tottenham striker in line for immediate debut

Heung-min Son has backed Dominic Solanke to be a “huge” player for Tottenham after his big-money move from Bournemouth.

Solanke’s arrival in north London was confirmed last week, the 26-year-old joining for a fee that could rise to £65million depending on add-ons.

The striker has signed a six-year contract at Spurs, and club captain Heung-min Son is confident Solanke can quickly produce the form that saw him score 19 Premier League goals for Bournemouth last season.

“I think Dom is a huge signing for us,” Son said.

“He did a fantastic job at Bournemouth, scored 19 goals I think, and I think it’s a great signing for us.

“I haven’t seen him in the training session because we had a game so I’m looking forward to playing with him and hope he can help our team.”

Solanke was presented to the Tottenham fans ahead of their final pre-season match against Bayern Munich, with the focus now swiftly turning to first weekend of the Premier League campaign.

Spurs travel to face newly-promoted Leicester on Monday night, and Postecoglou has suggested the new signing could be handed an immediate debut.

“I don't see any reason why he shouldn't be in a position to [play against Leicester],” Postecoglou said. “He's done most of pre-season.”

On Solanke’s mentality, he added: “He's had to work his way up and I always think that's a good thing.

“If it's all positive in their career, you wonder how they'll deal with set-backs and he's had his quite early in his career and pushed on.”
