Former Hibs forward Tam McManus insists that David Gray continuing as the side's boss is the "right" option and they can still reach the top six.

The Hibees are currently on a dismal run, with only one win in their previous 11 games across all competitions and some fans are now wanting a change in the dugout, with pressure intensifying on club legend Gray. McManus, however, thinks that they should stick by the head coach and push for a top-six finish, given they're not all that far away from it right now.

Their goalless draw in Dingwall on Wednesday evening against Ross County, coupled with Hearts' home loss to Kilmarnock meant the sides swapped spots at the bottom of the Scottish Premiership, with Hibs now second bottom and Neil Critchley's side in twelfth. Defensive errors have plagued their season so far and Easter Road punters are growing more concerned every day.

After a further defensive lapse last weekend, allowing Hearts teenager James Wilson to snatch a late point for their city rivals, they needed a strong response in Dingwall. However, they were unable to muster more than a few half chances but did stand resolute at the back to keep a clean sheet in the face of mounting criticism about their defensive capabilities.

Speaking to the Daily Record, McManus said: "They have to get through this period. They're going to stick with Gray as manager, which is right in my opinion. You can't keep hiring and firing managers. It's costly and ultimately nobody is getting a proper chance to build their own team. A couple of wins would change the whole outlook. Hibs are still only five points off the top six so it's not as if they're being cut adrift.

"The next two games are Dundee United and St Mirren at home. They have to be looking to pick top six points to kick-start the season. The top three has gone. But fourth place is still up for grabs I reckon. I said at the start of the season Hibs need to make sure they are in the top six come the split and then they can attack the Euro places.

"Two of the last three seasons they've finished in the bottom half which is a disaster. They have a decent November. There's no Old Firm, there's no derby. There's a chance to lay a marker on Aberdeen when the Dons visit Leith too. It's a huge month for everyone at Easter Road. By all means, stay ugly and nasty at the back. But Hibs need to bring the creativity and flair back to the final third."
