Scott Allan has honed in on the key area Hibernian need to recruit well in come the January transfer window.

Head coach David Gray opted to drop under-fire first-choice keeper Josef Bursik against Aberdeen on Tuesday evening and instead opted to play Jordan Smith. The former’s performances had been criticised by punters and pundits alike so far this season, but the latter was similarly underwhelming in the Scottish Premiership clash that finished 3-3 after a pulsating finish.

The Hibees remain bottom of the league and their former midfielder Allan reckons the spot between the sticks is where they should look to improve in January. Many fans remain unsure on whether or not club legend Gray should remain in the hot seat too as results continue to disappoint.

Speaking on the PLZ Soccer Football Show, Allan said: “I think long-term as the season goes on the goalkeeper is so crucial. The points could be all the difference.

“That’s two goalkeepers we’re talking about. It happened on Saturday, again last night.

“I think that could be probably the most important position that they need recruitment for in the January window.

“You know how important it is in terms of how your season looks. That’s maybe where the unrest in the back comes from because they just don’t feel that calmness.”
