Hitman Hatton is coming back to Newcastle

LEGENDARY world champion Ricky Hatton is on his way back to Newcastle.

Hatton will front a dinner at the Civic Centre in Newcastle on Thursday, December 3 in aid of the NSPCC.

Promoter Steve Wraith of Players Inc Event Management is bringing back Hatton, who said: “I love going up to Newcastle. I fought there on a sell-out show and I always receive great backing from Geordies.”

A two-course meal will also see entertainment by a top band. Standard tickets cost £300 and £500 for tables of 10 (£35 and £55 for individuals), while VIP tables of 10 are £900 or £95 each.

::BIRTLEY are taking a squad of seven boxers to Edinburgh on Friday night for a club show.

They are headed by David Ferguson, brother of the pro heavyweight of the same name, who has joined Birtley from Newcastle East End, and Tom Whitfield. Junior Callum French recorded a good victory on points at Shildon.

::THE European Boxing Federation are to stage a festive feast of fights at the Lancastrian Suite in Dunston on Sunday, November 29 (1.30pm).

Heavyweights Craig Kent and Eric Phail go head to head, while there will be double trouble from the Rogan brothers Scott and Lee.

Gary Firby and Anth Simpson return to the ring and Cristoph Christopherson and Davey Redhead make their debuts. Tickets (£30 standard and £50 ringside) are available from the boxers.

::GRAINGER PARK BC’s Joe Laws and George Bannister have reached this weekend’s final of the Junior Novices Championships in Liverpool after victories in the semi-finals in Bolton. Laws defeated the Midlands’ Daniel Curtin, while Bannister enjoyed a walkover.

Meanwhile, four of the club’s young boxers – Brett Brannen, Brandon Busby, Connor Somerville and Sam Wallace – fought on the club’s latest show at Throckley’s Union Jack club, although only Busby was victorious.
