Late home run lifts Oneonta baseball past Cobleskill 2-1

Apr. 1—Nick Jacoby's two-run home run in the eighth inning propelled the SUNY Oneonta baseball team to a 2-1 win over SUNY Cobleskill Monday at home.

Cobleskill took the lead in the top of the eighth before Jacoby responded and Tom Roefaro was able to seal the win in the ninth.

Martin Thorsland struck out eight over five scoreless innings while Roefaro earned the win, striking out four over four innings for the Red Dragons.

The win follows a doubleheader split for Oneonta Saturday against Oswego.

Joey Dwyer and Logan Hutter each hit home runs in a 9-6 win in the first game while Hutter hit his second of the day as the Red Dragons dropped the second game 8-6.

Oneonta improves to 9-12 and will visit Fredonia Friday.

SOFTBALL

RPI 6, SUNY Oneonta 2 (Saturday) RPI 10, SUNY Oneonta 4 (Saturday)

SUNY Oneonta dropped a doubleheader to number 19 RPI in its home opener Saturday. The Red Dragons fell 6-2 in game one and 10-4 in game two.

Delaney Haley went 3-for-3 with two runs in the first game while Victoria Hussey had an RBI double.

Emily Brown, Cadence Brennan and Angelina Scalere combined for four strikeouts and five walks in the circle.

In the second game, Julia Serena fell a home run short of the cycle for Oneonta, going 3-for-3 with a triple, double and single plus three RBI. Adriana Fiori added two hits and two runs.

Brennan, Scalere and Marissa Dionisio combined for three strikeouts and five walks in the loss.

Oneonta (4-10) will be at Union Tuesday.

SUNY Poly 9, SUNY Delhi 1 (Saturday) SUNY Poly 8, SUNY Delhi 2 (Saturday)

SUNY Delhi also dropped a home doubleheader over the weekend, falling to SUNY Poly 9-1 and 8-2.

Danielle Seymour drove in the lone run in game one as she finished 2-for-3. Cayla Moroni added a double.

Seymour and Angelina Dickel finished with two strikeouts and two walks between them in the circle.

Sidney Cooper and Jaden Taylor each had a double in the second game with Cooper and Kayleigh Allen driving in the Broncos' runs.

Seymour and Dickel were the pitchers once again, this time finishing with one strikeout and five walks.

Delhi (2-11) will be at SUNY Morrisville Friday to begin a stretch of four games in two days.

MEN'S LACROSSE

SUNY Poly 8, SUNY Delhi 7 (Saturday)

The SUNY Delhi men's lacrosse team lost a back-and-forth contest to SUNY Poly in heartbreaking fashion 8-7 Saturday.

In a game where neither team led by more than two goals, Poly's Luke Taylor scored the game-winner with 44 seconds left in regulation.

Benjamin Moscatiello led the Broncos with four goals while Chris Lazazzaro scored twice and Jackson Murphy had a goal and three assists.

Mike Triolo made six saves in the loss.

Delhi (8-2) will host SUNY Morrisville Tuesday.

SUNY Geneseo 16, SUNY Oneonta 10 (Saturday)

A big fourth quarter helped SUNY Geneseo take down SUNY Oneonta 16-10 Saturday.

The Red Dragons were able to tie things up at 9-9 early in the fourth quarter but Geneseo responded with six unanswered goals to pull away.

Jamie O'Neil and Thomas Hnis led Oneonta's offense with three and two goals, respectively. Also finding the back of the net were Eric Nicholson, Evan Kelly, Vincent Herbstman, Daniel Macchiarella and Aidan Greene.

Goalie Harrison Boukas finished with 15 saves while Ben Thayer made one stop in a brief appearance.

The Red Dragons (4-5 overall, 0-2 SUNYAC) will visit SUNY Plattsburgh this Saturday.

Eastern (PA) 18, Hartwick 10 (Saturday)

The Hartwick men dropped an 18-10 decision on the road Saturday to Eastern (PA).

Eastern scored seven unanswered goals in the first half to build an insurmountable early advantage.

Colin August scored three goals for Hartwick while Luke Ward and Spencer Hogaboom each netted two. Also scoring for the Hawks were Shayne Kerrigan, Seth Bello and Garrett Frost.

Kaiden Johnson and Chris Andersen made a combined 18 saves in net.

Hartwick (2-5) will host Utica Wednesday.

WOMEN'S LACROSSE

After keeping things close early on, the Oneonta women couldn't keep up with Oswego State in a 19-8 loss Saturday.

The Red Dragons tied things up at 5-5 in the second quarter but Oswego ended the half on a 4-0 run and dominated the second half to secure the win.

Margaret Byrne scored three goals to lead Oneonta while Mason Benvenuto scored twice and Lindsey Townes, Elizabeth Doherty and Marissa Evans scored a goal apiece.

Julia Hawkins made 12 saves in the losing effort.

Oneonta (2-5 overall, 1-1 SUNYAC) will host cross-street rival Hartwick Tuesday.
