Bristol tennis stars Luke Hooper and Charlie Swaine saw their Wimbledon dreams come to an end with a pair of battling defeats in the boys’ singles.

The West Country duo had both navigated their way to the second round in SW19 but were unable to book their place in the last 16 in front of supportive home crowds.

Hooper, 18, suffered a tough defeat against 13th seed Amir Omarkhanov as he went down 6-4 5-7 6-3 on Court 8.

And in the following encounter, Swaine, 17, fell to a straight sets 6-2 7-5 loss against Swiss star Flynn Thomas on Court 8.

Qualifier Hooper had beaten highly-rated Daniil Sarksian 6-3 3-6 6-3 over the weekend to advance to the second round.

While Swaine had done the same in straight sets against Timofei Derepasko to cap a super Saturday for the Bristol pairing.

But they were unable to keep their SW19 dreams and emulate Henry Searle’s historic home triumph 12 months ago.
