PGMOL chief Howard Webb has been told to hold face-to-face talks with Daniel Farke in the wake of Leeds United's feisty clash at Preston North End.

The Whites felt aggrieved after Ben Whiteman was not penalised for a foul on Jayden Bogle in the first half of an absorbing contest at Deepdale. Whiteman won the ball in a hefty challenge on the edge of the penalty area but clearly caught Bogle on the follow through.

Referee John Busby deemed that Whiteman's challenge was not worthy of second booking. Whiteman had earlier been cautioned for bringing down Brenden Aaronson as the USA international broke through the middle of the pitch.

United chief Farke was left fuming with the decision. He cut an animated figure on the touchline as he remonstrated with the fourth official. His protests earned him a yellow card from Busby.

Former Premier League referee and ex-PGMOL chief Keith Hackett told MOT Leeds News: “A part of football is being able to seek guidance on decisions – that has been the case since we’ve had technical areas.

“It’s about how many times you approach the official. [Daniel] Farke doesn’t strike me as someone who strikes his mouth off. He approaches in a reasonable manner and sometimes fourth officials need to not overreact and get on with it, rather than finding issues.

“What I would suggest is that Howard Webb, as the boss of the PGMOL, should visit the manager. Along with a referee coach, let’s talk through basic problems in how managers can question decisions.

“This isn’t someone throwing a bottle down, or screaming and shouting on the touchline. The relationship between officials and managers needs to be improved.”
