Huddersfield Town defender Matty Pearson has been nominated for the League One Player of the Month award for October. The centre-back started all five of Town’s League One matches last month, helping his side to register victories over Barnsley, Bristol Rovers and Exeter City.

The 31-year-old netted his side’s opening goal in the latter two wins, while the Terriers also kept three clean sheets in the league during the month. Pearson has had to be patient this season to cement his place in the side, with the defender featuring in just one of Town’s first seven League One matches of the campaign, but he has since started each of their last six games in the division.

The centre-back has been nominated for the award alongside Wrexham wing-back Ryan Barnett, Peterborough United winger Kwame Poku and Birmingham City attacking midfielder Willum Willumsson. The League One Manager of the Month nominations have also been released, which include Wycombe Wanderers’ Matt Bloomfield, Mansfield Town’s Nigel Clough, Cambridge United’s Garry Monk and Reading’s Ruben Selles. The winners of both awards will be announced on Friday.

Despite a recent upturn in form in the league, Pearson’s side are tasked with bouncing back from their shock FA Cup exit at Tamworth on Friday, with Town knocked out in the first round with a 1-0 defeat at the Lamb Ground. The Terriers face Crawley Town next up away from home in League One on Saturday, with the Red Devils sitting third from bottom in the division, on ten points from 13 matches played, while Michael Duff’s side are seventh in the league on 22 points after 13 games.
