Huddersfield Town wing-back Mickel Miller insists he has found it “quite straightforward” to settle in at the club following his summer move. The defender was one of eight new arrivals following Town’s relegation from the Championship, with the wing-back opting to leave Plymouth Argyle to sign for the League One outfit.

Miller has quickly established himself as a regular in the side, and the left-sided player is pleased with how his move has panned out so far. “It’s good, I can’t complain. I’m playing, enjoying my football, and I think that’s all you can ask for as a player,” the wing-back said at a recent press conference.

“I would say that going to a new club, it can always be difficult sometimes settling in, and adapting to different ways, but here it’s been quite straightforward for me. The boys have been welcoming, the staff, everyone around here, the fans, it just gives me that homely feeling. I think that’s probably been the most warming thing about it so far.”

Miller has also enjoyed working under Michael Duff, with the wing-back believing that the head coach sets a high bar for what he expects from his players.

“He’s a good guy. I know everyone will probably have their opinions when it’s not going well or when it’s going well, but I haven’t got anything bad to say,” Miller added.

“He’s been welcoming, he’s applied the tactics, and I’ve bought into it. He is tough, he isn’t a pushover. He’s a nice guy, but then obviously he just wants better from us also, from all of us. He gives us such a big milestone to go off, so when we don’t reach it, he kind of just gets a bit upset about it, because he just expects us to be better.”

Miller has made 14 appearances in all competitions for the Terriers so far this term, of which 12 have been starts, and the wing-back has been pleased with the amount he has featured for the club to date.

“I would say that I’m becoming more reliable actually, being able to sustain minutes in games,” the defender said.

“Previously, sometimes I’ve had injuries and I’ve had to come off at seventy-fives or sixties just to look after me a bit, but here I’ve been playing nineties, which is a good thing. I feel like I’m getting that under my belt.”

Having been brought in to the club in the summer, Miller insists he is still continuing to develop an understanding with his teammates as time goes on, leading the wing-back to believe that he has more to contribute moving forward.

“I feel like I’m creating a good relationship with a few of the players,” he said. “Obviously I forget sometimes, it feels like I’ve been here for ages, but I haven’t been here for long, so there’s still going to be that little bit of understanding, someone going the wrong way or not on the same page, but I feel like it’s getting there, and you’ve just got to be patient with it sometimes.

“I’d definitely say there’s more to come from me. I’m trying to push, I work hard every day. I want to bring more, obviously come off the pitch with some goals and assists, but as for that though, I’ve got to be patient. I can’t just click my fingers and make it happen. I’ve just got to continue doing the right things, be consistent with it, and then hopefully they’ll come.”

After not having a fixture over the weekend due to the international break, Miller’s side take on Charlton Athletic next up at the John Smith’s Stadium in League One on Saturday.
